What it does

One robot where grounds crews run three machines.

Most grounds budgets pay for mowing and line marking as separate labour: a contractor or crew on the ride-on through the week, then a second visit (or a marking service) before every fixture. The RM21 folds those jobs into one autonomous platform. Its 635 mm deck covers 12,000 m² on a single charge, and with fast charging it sustains up to 108,000 m² over 72 hours: enough for a school campus, a council reserve precinct or a golf course's surrounds.

The cutting range is the widest in the FJ Dynamics line-up: 20–127 mm, with the highest top cut of any unit in the range. That matters on WA kikuyu and couch ovals, where winter growth needs holding at height rather than scalping. Swap the deck's work for an attachment and the same chassis runs the LM01 line marker, the BP01 ball picker for driving ranges, the GC01 grass collector for clippings, or the DB01 dew brush.

For schools and clubs, that is the story: the robot mows the oval through the week and marks it before the weekend fixture, one machine and one schedule instead of two labour bills. League templates are confirmed at scoping, and combined mow-and-mark programmes are quoted per site assessment.

Navigation is RTK GNSS fused with LiDAR. RTK gives centimetre-level positioning but needs open sky, so we map tree cover and signal shadow at the site survey; the LiDAR keeps it tracking along tree-lined boundaries. Around people, the RM21 carries 360° LiDAR obstacle detection, front and rear bumpers and small-animal avoidance, and the app splits a precinct into zones, each with its own cut height and schedule.

Built for the conditions, honestly scoped.

The RM21's case in WA is arithmetic: schools, councils and clubs pay twice for the same turf, once to cut it and again to mark it. Folding both into one autonomous platform, with the 127 mm top cut that kikuyu and couch ovals need after winter growth, is what no single-purpose mower offers. Mow-and-mark programmes are scoped and quoted per site assessment, with the three commercial models (RaaS, outright purchase with a Care Plan, or lease-to-own) all on the table.

The maker matters too. FJ Dynamics was founded in 2017 by former DJI chief scientist Wu Di, and FJD reports more than 200,000 units sold across 140+ countries, with RM21 deployments on golf courses in Poland and Sweden in its official case studies. The unit ships with a 24-month main-unit warranty and lifetime software updates under FJD's global policy.

The honest constraints: RTK positioning needs open sky, so heavily-canopied corners get mapped, zoned or excluded at the survey rather than discovered later; the charging dock's electronics need sheltered housing, so we scope a shed, storeroom or covered enclosure beside the grounds; and IPX4 sealing handles Perth winter rain, not standing water. Operating range is 0–45 °C, which covers metro and South West sites comfortably.

Service distance is the wedge. The main east-coast FJD dealer does not ship robots to WA at all. We supply and service FJ Dynamics robots across WA from Perth: local survey, mapping, attachment changeovers, blades and response in the same time zone. Can the same RM21 mow and mark lines?
Yes. The LM01 line-marker kit fits the same chassis, so one robot mows the oval through the week and marks it before the weekend fixture. League templates are confirmed at scoping, and a combined mow-and-mark programme is quoted per site assessment.
Does the RM21 work under trees?
RTK positioning needs open sky, so dense canopy is the constraint to design around. The RM21 pairs RTK with LiDAR, which keeps it tracking along tree-lined boundaries, and we map tree cover and signal shadow during the site survey so the mowing plan is honest from day one.
What does the charging dock need?
Mains power and sheltered housing. The dock electronics are not weatherproof, so it lives in a shed, storeroom or covered enclosure beside the grounds. We identify a suitable dock location as part of the site survey; most schools and clubs already have one.
How much ground can one RM21 cover?
12,000 m² on a single charge, with a 5 hour runtime and a 3 hour fast charge, up to 108,000 m² over 72 hours. The app splits a campus or precinct into zones with their own schedules, so a typical school site with two ovals sits comfortably inside one unit.
Can it handle kikuyu and couch ovals?
Yes. The 20–127 mm cutting-height range is the widest in the FJ Dynamics line-up, with the highest top cut, so it holds winter-growth kikuyu and couch at a sensible height instead of scalping it. Frequent autonomous cuts then keep the sward in its ideal band.
Is it safe on grounds shared with students and the public?
The RM21 carries 360° LiDAR obstacle detection, front and rear bumpers and small-animal avoidance, and it slows or stops for anything in its path. In practice we schedule it outside peak use, early mornings, evenings or closed periods, the same way you would schedule any grounds plant.
How is the RM21 priced?
Quoted per site assessment. There are three ways to run one: Robotics-as-a-Service with a fixed monthly fee covering hardware, service, blades and software; outright purchase with an optional Care Plan; or a 2–4 year lease-to-own.
