What it does

A commercial mower that cuts every day, not once a week.

The FRX removes the recurring labour of keeping commercial turf cut. Map an oval, a reserve or a fairway surround once and it mows on a schedule you set: 520 mm wide, 10 to 100 mm cutting height, the same lines every time, no operator. FJ Dynamics builds it for sports fields, golf courses and manicured public space, and we supply and service it across WA from Perth.

The commercial logic is per cut, not per month. A contractor cuts it once a week for $120 to $250 a visit; the FRX cuts it every day for about $50 a cut. Daily cutting is what changes the turf: clippings are short enough to disappear, growth stays even, and the surface reads as maintained every morning rather than the day after the mower visits. If your grounds are cut twice a week or more, or you carry grounds staff who should be on edges and gardens instead of laps, the numbers usually favour the robot.

One unit covers serious ground. A single 1 kWh battery cuts 8,000 m² over a 320-minute runtime, then the robot docks itself: in auto-charging trim the FRX Stationary keeps roughly 20,000 m² cut every 24 hours, about three football pitches. For bigger precincts the FRX Swap variant drops the dock for hot-swappable batteries rotated by site staff, lifting each unit to 32,000 m² per 24 hours. Most sites want Stationary; Swap earns its place on multi-unit deployments with people on the ground.

Navigation is RTK GNSS fused with vision, cutting to centimetre-accurate virtual boundaries with no perimeter wire to bury or break. The included FJD base station supplies corrections without relying on mobile coverage, and obstacle handling pairs the vision system with a physical bumper. The honest caveat: RTK wants open sky. Scattered trees are workable; dense canopy shadows the signal, so we survey tree cover before quoting and zone the map around it. Anti-theft is built in for open public sites: PIN lock, GPS tracking, geofencing and lift alarms.

We install the RTK base station, drive the boundary once and set zones, cutting heights, no-go areas and schedules. Virtual boundaries only; no buried wire.

Mow

The FRX cuts daily inside its map, steering around obstacles and finishing the pattern. You set the hours; it keeps them, in your chosen mowing angles.

The maths, and the honest caveats.

Perth commercial mowing runs $120 to $250 a visit for a typical large site, and landscape trades sit on the national skills-shortage list: hiring a grounds crew in WA is hard, and getting harder. The FRX is the unit we lead with because its numbers work hardest: the strongest per-cut economics in the FJD range, an included RTK base station, and a 25° working slope that covers the banks most mowers avoid.

The established alternative is Husqvarna's CEORA 546 EPOS, listed at $55,899 including GST by a Perth dealer. It is a proven large-area machine with a genuine WA dealer network, and for a single large flat site bought outright it deserves a look. Our case is different: the FRX runs a comparable daily-cut programme on typical ovals at a fraction of that hardware price, ships with its RTK base station, and is available as a service from $50 a day rather than as capital expenditure only.

WA conditions get an honest read. IPX5 sealing handles Perth winter rain and end-of-week washdowns, and the 10 to 100 mm cutting range spans couch, kikuyu and buffalo mowing heights. FJ Dynamics publishes no operating-temperature figure for the FRX, so for sites that work through Pilbara summers we quote the FJD Titan, the one unit in the range rated to 55°C. There is no OEM guidance on sandy soils or coastal salt either; our survey and service schedule cover both.

Service distance matters more in mowing than in cleaning: the machines live outdoors, blades are consumables, and the main east-coast dealers do not ship robots to WA or install beyond their own metro areas. Common buyer questions.

How steep can the site be, and what about trees?
The FRX holds a 25° working slope, the strongest OEM slope figure in FJD's commercial mower range, which covers most Perth banks, mounds and swale batters. Navigation is RTK with vision fusion, and RTK needs a reasonably open view of the sky. Scattered trees are usually workable; heavy canopy can shadow the signal, so we map tree cover during the free site survey and design the mowing zones around it. For heavily treed sites we quote the FJD RM21, which adds a LiDAR navigation stack.
Can it work through Perth winter rain?
The FRX is rated IPX5, so rain and a hose-down at the end of a sandy week are both within spec. We schedule cuts around irrigation windows and heavy weather for cut quality rather than for the robot's sake. It is not flood-tolerant: areas that hold standing water get zoned out at mapping.
Will one FRX handle our oval?
In auto-charging mode one FRX maintains about 20,000 m² a day, roughly three football pitches or a senior oval with its surrounds. It cuts 8,000 m² per battery charge, then docks and resumes on its own. Larger precincts run multiple units, or the battery-swap variant at up to 32,000 m² per 24 hours each, coordinated through the GreenMaster dashboard. We confirm the fit at the site survey.
What does the FRX cost?
Mowing as a service from $50 a day, covering the robot, mapping, blades, service and software. Is a robot actually cheaper than our mowing contractor?
Not always, and we will say so. A single small oval cut once a week by a contractor is often not a robot site: the weekly visit can cost less than a daily-rate robot. The FRX wins where turf is cut twice a week or more, where daily presentation matters, or where grounds staff time can be redeployed to edges, gardens and repairs. We run the numbers at the site survey, and if they don't stack up, we'll tell you.
What is the difference between FRX Stationary and FRX Swap?
Stationary is the standard fit: it includes the auto-charging dock, so the robot charges itself and runs unattended day after day. Swap has no dock; site staff rotate its hot-swappable 1 kWh batteries by hand, which lifts coverage to 32,000 m² per 24 hours and suits multi-unit sites with people on the ground. Most single-site clients want Stationary; we scope both at the survey.
